Nathaniel Hackett will have the challenge of making the Denver Broncos a playoff contender right in his very first year as the team's head coach. And one of the reasons for him to be optimistic that he'll get the job done is running back Javonte Williams, who had a surprising rookie season in the NFL.

Hackett is clearly thrilled over having someone like Williams on his team. Regardless of whether the Broncos successfully land Aaron Rodgers or not in the offseason, Denver will have some stars to make things happen on the field offensively, and that certainly includes Williams, who seems to have already blown Hackett's mind, per Ryan O’Halloran of The Denver Post.

“Holy (cow), he’s impressive,” Hackett said. “I didn’t realize he was as fast as he is and as powerful as he is. I remember him from coming out of college last year and how good he was, but being able to meet him and his intelligence, he’s the all-around package and a guy you can do a lot of things with.”

Williams was selected in the second round (35th overall) in the 2021 NFL Draft and he did not waste much time in showing why Denver had a steal in him — and that's with him sharing running back duties with established veteran Melvin Gordon. In his first year in the NFL, Williams rushed for 903 yards and four touchdowns on 203 carries.

With Williams breaking out right away, Gordon's stock has come down and it's possible that the Broncos part ways with him in free agency. In any case, Denver has a big role for Williams in 2022.
