Theo Riddick is one of the best receiving backs in the NFL. He's proven it for years now, and it appears he's taking his talents to the Denver Broncos.

Theo Riddick spent the first six years of his career with the Detroit Lions. In that time, he never surpassed 93 carries in a single season. He averaged 3.6 yards per carry (only surpassing 4.0 in his final season with the team with a 4.3 average), and scored a total of five touchdowns on the ground.

Despite all that, Riddick was a significant part of their offense and an above-average running back in the NFL; someone any team would love to have.

The reason Riddick stayed so relevant despite low rushing numbers was his incredible skill as a receiving back. He's posted at least 50 receptions in each of his last four seasons. It's also the reason he's always a fantastic fantasy football sleeper every single year.

That included a career-high 80 in 2015, as well as 61 last season.

Despite having his second-most receptions in a season last year, Riddick didn't put up his usual big numbers. His 384 yards were just 13 off his lowest total in the last four years. Meanwhile, it was the first time since his rookie season that he didn't record a receiving touchdown. It was the first time since his rookie season that he didn't record multiple receiving touchdowns.

Maybe that's the reason the Lions felt they could move on from him this offseason.

Still, though, the numbers were decent enough – especially considering he missed two games. Riddick is still someone that could help a team's offense exponentially.

Denver already has multiple running backs who are competent in the passing game – including Phillip Lindsay and Devontae Booker. However, not many in the NFL are as talented at the skill as Riddick is. Due to that, he can add a different wrinkle and a change-of-pace to the offense.

Theo Riddick could prove to be a great safety blanket for quarterback Joe Flacco (and possibly Drew Lock). The Denver Broncos are better off thanks to the signing.
