Many football fans have set high expectations for the Denver Broncos to have a breakout campaign in the upcoming season. However, that will definitely be harder to reach now that veteran linebacker Von Miller is sidelined with a dislocated tendon injury.

Broncos head coach Vic Fangio sounded off on the 10-year veteran's situation:

“He had surgery (Friday) morning and I was told it went well, and we'll see how it goes,” he said. “They haven't said anything on a timetable based on his surgery. That will depend on the healing.”

The severity of Miller's injury came off as a surprise to the team and observers around as it happened on the last play of practice.

“He just rushed around the edge and never hit the ground and never looked bad,” Fangio said earlier this week. “If you saw the video, you'd think nothing happened, but it did.”

The Broncos will certainly have a tough time finding a potent replacement to fill in the hole left by Miller. His 46 combined tackles and 8.0 sacks were a crucial factor in the team's success last season. His dominant presence in the team's defensive line also gave matchup nightmares for opposing offensive linemen.

Another prolific linebacker in third-year player Bradley Chubb is still recovering from a torn ACL sustained last season. He remains to be questionable for their opening game against the Tennessee Titans.

The Broncos' success will rely on its offensive arsenal which has to compensate for the team's depleted defensive rotation. Despite being undermanned, the goal of reaching the playoffs remains the same for head coach Fangio and his men.
