Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson officially named Baker Mayfield the starting quarterback on Monday, making the rookie the 30th man to start under center for the Browns since the franchise returned to the NFL in 1999.

What does Mayfield think about this stat? He had a simple response, according to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.

“It is 2018,” Mayfield said. “Don't really care.”

Of course, Mayfield is excited about taking over for Tyrod Taylor as the starting quarterback. The 2018 No. 1 pick admitted it was difficult being the backup because he wanted to play.

Mayfield got that chance when Taylor went down with a concussion in the second quarter of last Thursday night's game against the New York Jets. The rookie immediately took advantage of the opportunity, leading the Browns to a thrilling comeback victory, their first win since 2016.

Mayfield threw for 201 yards and completed 73.9 percent of his passes in his riveting debut. He didn't throw for any touchdowns, but he did catch a 2-point conversion toss from Jarvis Landry.

Mayfield will try to keep things rolling in his first start against the Oakland Raiders. He's looking forward to the challenge of a road game in a hostile environment.

“Anytime that you play on the road, it is a great opportunity to see what your team is made of,” Mayfield said. “It is kind of your back is against the wall. It is just your team — just the team that you bring and you travel with. It is always exciting with that. Then, you add in the perspective of the Black Hole. It is a hostile environment. You want to see how your team is going to react. You want to see how they will battle adversity and how you take on the challenge. I am very excited about the opportunity.”

The Raiders are 0-3 and will be playing with desperation, but Mayfield has a ton of swagger and won't be intimidated.
