With the Cleveland Browns' selection of former Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield as the first overall pick in this year's draft, the franchise hopes it has found its long-term answer under center.

One of the big pieces of the puzzle that the Browns are hoping to lean on in the process is former Pro Bowl wide receiver Josh Gordon. With that in mind, Mayfield stated that he has begun to develop a bond with Gordon through video games, according to Matthew Florjancic of wkyc.com.

“Xbox, to be honest with you,” Mayfield said of how the quick bond developed.

“He plays a little bit of everything. I’m not as much into 2K as he is.”

While off the field, video games are certainly a helpful tool that can be used to help Mayfield find common ground with Gordon. This is something that many other professional athletes use to grow and cultivate their relationships with teammates away from the game.

That said, Mayfield is simply looking for any way to find success on the field. At the same time, there is still much for him to grasp before that can be translated to moving up the depth chart, as he has to get a better understanding of the playbook.

Cleveland is more than comfortable with Tyrod Taylor being their starter in 2018, but the long-term play is Mayfield taking over the starting job down the line. All of this will depend on his development and comfort playing at the next level that will include developing strong bonds with his receivers, which currently includes the likes of Gordon, Jarvis Landry, and Corey Coleman.
