Quarterback Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns almost pulled off the unthinkable on Sunday afternoon at Arrowhead Stadium. With the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs ultimately coming away with the victory en route to advancing to this year's AFC Championship Game, the Browns put up more than just a fight before officially being eliminated from title contention.

Following the Browns' narrow loss to the Chiefs on Sunday afternoon, the aforementioned Mayfield was no doubt unhappy being defeated, but the Cleveland signal-caller provided the franchise's fan base with more optimism than it is usually accustomed to as well. With the Browns previously selecting Mayfield with the No. 1 overall pick in 2018 due to the team's winless 2017 campaign, Cleveland has certainly made some serious strides in only a few seasons, which should absolutely be the reason to keep the faith moving forward (via Jake Trotter of ESPN).

The Browns had not reached the postseason since all the way back in 2002-03 before Cleveland securing the AFC's sixth seed in 2020-21. Thanks to a win over the arch-rival Pittsburgh Steelers, who won the AFC North division this time around, in Week 17, the Browns then defeated that same team in the AFC Wild Card Game just a week ago before advancing to the divisional round against the Chiefs.

With the Browns defeating the Steelers in impressive fashion to open up its playoff run and then giving the Chiefs all it could handle on Sunday, Cleveland appears primed to stick around in the AFC for a little while longer.
