Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield has struggled to live up to expectations in 2021. Despite showing extreme toughness to fight through injury on a weekly basis, Mayfield's on-field performance has been sub-optimal, much to the dismay of Browns fans. The fans in Cleveland have been vocal about their displeasure with his play, but it seems that some individuals are taking things vastly too far. Mayfield's wife, Emily Mayfield, posted to her Instagram story on Tuesday night and lambasted Browns fans who had allegedly been sending death threats to the team's QB.

Emily Mayfield's story suggested that Browns fans have been sending death threats, speaking outright lies, and blatantly disrespecting her husband over social media. Mayfield has faced more than his fair share of criticism amid the Browns' struggles in 2021, but it seems the line has officially been crossed after threats were issued on social media. This isn't the first we've heard of disgruntled sports fans wishing ill-will on star athletes or players who made a crucial mistake, but there's no denying that sending such messages is completely out of line.

Mayfield's struggles mounted over the weekend, throwing four interceptions on the Browns' Christmas Day loss to the Green Bay Packers. It was a game the Browns could've surely won, however, Mayfield's inability to protect the football resulted in a disheartening loss. Regardless of the outcome of Week 16, or any other game for that matter, no player should be subject to death threats from fans online.

This season, Mayfield has started 13 games for the Browns, posting a 6-7 record in those games. The Browns are 7-8 on the year, in last place in the AFC North, and it's clear that the fan base is fed up with the lack of results.
