The Cleveland Browns offensive line has been nothing short of a disaster in 2019. If not for center J.C. Tretter, the blocking unit's performance would be spectacularly horrendous to witness. Luckily, it appears as if he will be around for a long time. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Tretter and the Browns have agreed to a three-year, $32.5 million contract with $23 million guaranteed.

Tretter, 28, was in the final year of his three-year, $17.6 million contract signed in 2017. He is now under contract through the 2022 season. Previously, Tretter played in Green Bay after the Packers made him a fourth-round pick in 2013 out of Cornell — yes, like Andy Bernard.

Quietly, Tretter is playing the best football of his career in 2019. According to Pro Football Focus, he has allowed one sack on the year. Per PFF, he led the NFL in pass-blocking grade (85.2), finished sixth in pass-blocking efficiency (98.9), seventh in offensive grade (70.1), and ninth in run blocking (65.3) through the first seven weeks of the season.

According to ESPN, Tretter is tied for first with all NFL centers in Pass Block Win Rate at 98%.

Tretter has been an ironman for the Browns since signing in 2017, as he has not missed any of his available 24 games. At 28 years old, General Manager John Dorsey believes the center is far from done in the NFL and views him as a center point in the Cleveland offensive line, hence the three-year contract extension. Now, the Browns must figure out how to add competent tackles to surround the well-paid center.
