The Chicago Bulls lost to the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday after allowing a huge Brookly run in the third quarter gave them a big lead entering the final period. The game featured an even bigger loss for the Bulls. Just a few seconds into the game, backup forward Derrick Jones Jr. suffered an ugly knee injury after planting his right foot. He needed to be helped off the court by teammates.

The latest update on Jones is promising. Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that Jones avoided serious damage but still will be sidelined for at least a month with a bone bruise.

Although it is a very unfortunate turn of events, Jones ad the Bills got a stroke of luck by avoiding a lengthy injury. Jones has been a solid supporting piece for the Bulls. The 24-year-old is averaging 6.3 points and 3.4 rebounds per game on career-high shooting percentages. His energy and athleticism have made him a useful reserve, as Chicago has learned in his first season with the team.

The Bulls are still the top seed in the Eastern Conference after the loss to the Nets. With the trade deadline approaching, they could look for a temporary replacement for Jones while he recovers.

Chicago will look to bounce back from its loss to Brooklyn against an equally tough (if not tougher) opponent, the Golden State Warriors, on Friday.
