The Chicago Bulls landed the No. 7 overall pick in this year's draft. With it, they selected Coby White — a point guard from the University of North Carolina. Some rookies enter the league with an uncertain future, but Chris Paul says “the sky is the limit” for White.

Paul, who was recently traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder, spoke with The Athletic about White's potential:

Via Darnell Mayberry and Gina Mizell of The Athletic:

“I know what he’s capable of,” White’s mentor and future Hall of Fame point guard Chris Paul said. “But sometimes he’s so hard on himself. That’s just because he wants to do well. But the sky’s the limit for him, because he’s going to work hard.”

White and Paul share North Carolina roots. White played for Paul’s AAU program, Team CP3, and now joins a growing list of NBA players to come up under Paul’s umbrella, including Bulls center Wendell Carter Jr., Cleveland point guard Collin Sexton, Minnesota guard Josh Okogie and New York guard Reggie Bullock.

“He is my family,” Paul said of White after watching his third Summer League game from a courtside seat inside the Thomas & Mack Center. “He’s a tough kid. He’s been through a whole lot.”

White, now 19 years of age, played one season at UNC, where he earned Second-Team All-ACC honors. In his 35 appearances with the Tarheels (all starts), the Goldsboro native racked up averages of 16.1 points on 42.3 percent shooting from the field (35.3 percent from beyond the arc), 4.1 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 28.5 minutes per outing.

The Bulls finished the 2018-19 campaign with a disappointing 22-60 overall record, which left the team well out of playoff contention. Hopefully, though, with the addition of White and others, Chicago will be back in the hunt next season.
