Ahead of Sunday's duel between the New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens, star quarterback Cam Newton showered praise on Lamar Jackson, putting him in the same category as Michael Vick.

Newton and Jackson will face off on Sunday in a duel between two players who were at one time or another gravity-bending QB threats. Newton, who was crowned 2015 NFL MVP, didn't even dare put himself in a category with Jackson — the NFL's reigning MVP. Apart from relating Jackson to Vick, Newton also believes that the Ravens star has the capacity to inspire other kids:

“I say Michael Vick, I say Lamar, I don't even think I'm in that stratosphere but for him to be as dominant, dynamic, explosive at the quarterback position is something that just gives so much opportunity to the younger generation to be able to see what Lamar Jackson is doing and to get hope to say I can play the quarterback position too,” Newton said, per Jelani Scott of nfl.com

Newton actually first saw Jackson in the latter's college football debut in 2015. Incidentally, Louisville faced off against Auburn — Newton's alma mater. And right from the get-go, Newton was impressed with Jackson's performance.

“I was looking and I was like, ‘Man, who in the world is this kid flying around?' I didn't know who he was, but he was making plays. Like, he was so electric,” Newton recalled thinking at the time.

The last time the two faced each other was in 2018. Back then, Jackson was just a backup QB. On Sunday, they will face one another with Cam Newton looking to match his Ravens counterpart.
