Veteran wide receiver A.J. Green is reportedly signing a one-year deal to join Kyler Murray, DeAndre Hopkins and the Arizona Cardinals.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network first reported Green was nearing an agreement with the Cardinals, noting the deal had apparently been “in the works” since Tuesday night. Adam Schefter of ESPN reported the deal is worth up to $8.5 million, with $6 million guaranteed.

The longtime Cincinnati Bengals wideout will hope to revitalize his career in the desert. It's an upside play for the Cardinals, given Green's track record.

A.J. Green made seven consecutive Pro Bowls to start his career. He went over the 1,000-yard receiving mark in six of those seasons, asserting himself as one of the most talented and game-breaking receivers in football. But injuries intervened.

The former Georgia star was limited to just nine games in 2018. He missed the entirety of the 2019 campaign with an ankle injury. A.J. Green was healthy in 2020, playing all 16 games. But he hardly looked like the Green of old. The 32-year-old hauled in just 47 of 104 targets for 523 yards and two touchdowns. The Cardinals are obviously hoping for some old form from the WR.

Of course, Green was playing with a rookie quarterback Joe Burrow, not to mention one of the worst offensive lines in football. Still, rookie Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd each proved themselves more dependable in the passing game.

The Cardinals might not have Pro Bowl expectations for A.J. Green. But their passing game could be all the more dangerous if he is anything close to the guy he was in his first seven seasons with the Bengals.
