Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians is under contract to serve as the team’s mentor until 2019, but there are already rumors swirling that his coaching obligations for the Cardinals will end next year so that he could tend with some health issues.

Arians, however, doesn’t want anyone to prematurely declare the end of his coaching gig in the desert. Responding to an earlier report by Hub Arkush of Pro Football Weekly that said both Arians and the Cardinals’ management have already agreed to go on their separate ways at the end of this season, the 65-year-old Arians sent a text message to USA TODAY Sports’ Jarrett Bell which basically refutes Arkush’s report.

But in a text to USA TODAY Sports' Jarrett Bell, Arians wrote: “Never heard of the (reporter). Nothing decided.”

Arians, who has battled with kidney cancer, has coached the Cardinals since 2013. Since then, Arizona has gone to the playoffs twice, nearly reaching the Super Bowl in the 2015-16 season when the lost to the Carolina Panthers in the NFC Championship Game. So far in his stint with Arizona, Arians has collected a record of 48-30-1 across five seasons.

The franchise's future beyond this season looks cloudy with the team currently bannered by aging stars, including Carson Palmer and Larry Fitzgerald. A rebuild could be on the Cardinals’ horizon, but it remains unclear whether Arizona is willing to go that way.
