Arizona Cardinals second-round pick Christian Kirk was arrested three months before the draft for throwing rocks at cars outside of the Waste Management Phoenix Open golf tournament.

According to Kent Somers of The Arizona Republic, Kirk was charged with damaging property and disorderly conduct-disruptive behavior.

According to Scottsdale Police: “The suspects were intoxicated and leaving the WMPO. As they were walking through a parking lot, (they were observed) throwing rocks at cars and breaking a window of at least one of them.”

A Cardinals team spokesperson said that they were aware of Kirk's arrest before the draft, and they talked to him at length about the incident.

“We spoke with Christian about it at length and also looked into it independently. Our understanding is that the process will be resolved in the near future but while it remains an active legal matter, we won’t comment further.”

After the draft, Cardinals General Manager Steve Keim made it a point to talk about how they focused on drafting high character players.

Kirk enjoyed a standout career at Texas A&M before declaring for the NFL draft, after his Junior year. This last year he had 919 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. He finished his three years with the Aggies with 26 receiving touchdowns and over 2,800 yards gained.

He was also one of the best kick returners in college football. He averaged over 21 yards per return on both kickoffs and punts and reached the end zone six times.

Kirk should be able to be an immediate impact player for the Cardinals as long as he isn't suspended to start the season. If the NFL did decide to suspend him, it wouldn't come until after his court case is resolved.
