A high-scoring Christmas Day outing between New York and Boston didn't exactly draw the best of the holiday spirit, as Knicks star Carmelo Anthony and Celtics center Al Horford had a heated exchange during the third quarter, forcing their respective teammates to come in and separate them.

Both players were assessed a technical foul after the scuffle. When asked about the verbal exchange, Anthony had a fairly simple reason for the matter.

“A Dominican and Puerto Rican. That’s all,” he told Roger Rubin of the New York Post.

“No hard feelings — we have love for the Dominicans,” he said with a laugh. “It was nothing serious. That’s what happens when New York and Boston play.”

Knicks guard Derrick Rose was also involved in a dangerous play as he drove up for a layup with a minute to go in the third quarter, catching Marcus Smart with an elbow shot to the mouth on the way up.

Rose was called for a charge while Smart laid on the baseline with blood coming out of his mouth. Neither Rose nor Smart felt there was any ill intent. The Celtics guard was able to stay in the game.

Boston got the last laugh in the game, topping New York 119-114 in the first of five Christmas Day games.
