New York Knicks star forward Carmelo Anthony won't consider waiving his no-trade clause to join the Portland Trail Blazers despite hearing from the organization's players over the last few days, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, who spoke in ESPN Radio about the possibility of a trade.

“Portland's players are reaching out to Melo,” Wojnarowski said. “Portland would love to get involved in this and become a team that Melo would consider. … They would like for Carmelo to waive his no-trade and go to Portland, but right now, that's not something Melo's considering.”

The Blazers got much better at the end of the season with the acquisition of Jusuf Nurkic, a stand-and-bang center that fits right into their aggressive offensive system, making Melo a potential missing piece in the equation.

Anthony has been pulled off the trade block momentarily, more as a moratorium for the official hiring of new general manager Scott Perry and president Steve Mills, but Wojnarowski is expecting talks to resume in the next few days.

While Anthony's main interest has been the Cleveland Cavaliers since last season, there is no clear viable way to make a trade with the type of contracts the organization has in place and the lack of cap flexibility to take the loaded contracts the Knicks hope to unload.

The Rockets have become his new-found interest due to point guard Chris Paul, but the Blazers remain intent in their pursuit despite Anthony's preference.

“You look at the infrastructure in Portland of C.J. McCollum, Dame Lillard, and Jusuf Nurkic in the middle, [and] Carmelo on that team in Portland? Portland feels like, ‘You plug Melo into our team, we're as good as anyone outside of Golden State in the West,'” said Wojnarowski.

The Rockets tried to get the Blazers to help form a three-team or four-team trade, but to no avail.

“Sources tell me New York and Houston tried to pull Portland into a three-way, potentially a four-way deal,” Wojnarowski said. “Portland does not have any interest in helping Houston, a conference rival, get Carmelo Anthony.”
