More details have now surfaced regarding the apparent season-defining plane ride that the Boston Celtics went on prior to their 33-point demolition job on the defending champions, the Golden State Warriors, on Tuesday.

Celtics veteran big man Al Horford shed some light on what went down during the cross-country flight, and as it turns out, it was team talisman Kyrie Irving who initiated what would turn out to be a turning point for the entire team.

“Kyrie was instrumental because he was the one that initiated everything as far as being like, ‘Hey, let’s have conversations, let’s play cards, let’s do this, let’s do that' on this plane ride,” Horford told Chris Forsberg of NBC Sports Boston after Friday’s practice on the campus of UCLA. “And we were all engaged at that point.”

Horford went on to explain why he credits Irving for aptly playing his role as the team's leader by being the instigator.

“He’s the one who got that ball rolling,” added Horford. “We spent a good amount of time together, we talked, we laughed, stuff like that. It just happened to be extended. As opposed to an hour or two hours, almost seven hours. You’d think we’d get sick of each other but, actually, it made the plane ride go quicker. We were just hanging out and talking.”

It appears that the plane ride has done wonders for the team, as the players may have been able to settle some internal issues that have hindered their success.

Boston are currently on a two-game win streak, and will be looking to build on the momentum of their recent run as they face LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday.
