Remember all of that talk about Anthony Davis not wanting to play for the Boston Celtics? Uh, yeah. We should probably put a pin in that.

When asked whether or not the Celtics were on his “list,” Davis had this to say:

This essentially proves that all of the talk about Davis not wanting to sign an extension with Boston if he gets traded there was all posturing.

Originally, the rumor was that Davis wanted the Los Angeles Lakers and did not want any part of the C's. However, that seemed like Davis and his agent, Rich Paul, trying to steer Davis to the Lakers more than anything knowing that the Celtics were the Lakers' biggest threat in acquiring him.

Los Angeles reportedly made a godfather offer to the New Orleans Pelicans for the 25-year-old at the trade deadline that was said to include Kyle Kuzma, Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Ivica Zubac, Josh Hart, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and multiple first-round draft picks.

However, the Lakers were rebuffed by the Pelicans, who were said to prefer a potential Celtics offer that would likely be built around young star Jayson Tatum.

Due to the “Rose rule” concerning Kyrie Irving, Boston was not able to acquire Davis before the trade deadline, but the C's will be fully permitted to pursue a trade for the superstar this summer.

Obviously, nothing is set in stone yet, as a lot can change between now and the offseason, but it appears that the Celtics are the frontrunners to land Davis.
