Boston Celtics star Gordon Hayward is finally making his return to Utah after missing last season's return game due to his devastating leg injury. Hayward posted a message to Jazz fans ahead of Friday's matchup:

There will likely be a mixed reception for Hayward during his return. Jazz fans weren't too happy when the All-Star decided to leave Utah for Boston after seven seasons, especially given how his free-agency decision played out. It initially leaked that Hayward had indeed chosen the Celtics, but then there were denials and a long wait until the decision was officially confirmed.

Hayward is still trying to find his groove in Boston after recovering from his injury. The 28-year-old is averaging just 9.9 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 25.0 minutes per game while shooting 40.0 percent from the field and 33.3 percent on 3-pointers.

The Celtics' entire offense has been scuffling as they try to figure out roles for all their talented players. Youngsters Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Terry Rozier have all struggled with Hayward and Kyrie Irving back from their respective injuries.

Meanwhile, Utah didn't really miss a beat last season without Hayward. While the Jazz struggled to start the season, they came on strong and even won a playoff series on the back of rookie star Donovan Mitchell.

Like Boston, Utah has had its stare of struggles out of the gate this season after coming in with a good amount of hype. The Jazz are 5-6 overall and just 1-4 at home, but the home crowd will certainly be at full throat with Gordon Hayward returning Friday night.
