Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart had it going on in the first quarter of play during Thursday's matchup against the Phoenix Suns. It was a marquee matchup for Boston as they went up against one of the best teams in the NBA right now in the Suns, and Smart made sure to make his mark on the game early on.

Smart showcased his defensive prowess against Phoenix star Devin Booker in this very impressive sequence (h/t NBA Central on Twitter):

Booker is one of the most gifted scorers in the league today and Smart was more than happy to take on the defensive assignment. In this particular exchange, it is clear that the Celtics guard came out on top.

Defense has always been Smart's strong suit, but he's a pretty good player on the other end of the floor as well.

Smart pulled off an eye-popping spin move before throwing a no-look dime to new Celtics recruit Jabari Parker. Needless to say, Smart is not only a defensive genius; he can also be quite a force on offense too.

The Celtics are coming off a loss against the Chicago Bulls on Monday and they are looking to get back to winning ways against the Suns here. They get another tough test on Friday when they take on the mighty Brooklyn Nets.
