Robert Williams has played sparingly so far this season for the Boston Celtics, but he's already receiving some encouragement from friends and family after making his debut on Monday night. He only appeared in about four minutes of action, but it was nice for the rookie to step on the court for the first time. Williams told Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe that he received a few texts after making his debut.

“My mom was the first. She sent me pictures. ‘I see you on TV.’ But that’s mom duties. I feel like she’s got to do that s***.”

Williams was taken by the Celtics with the 27th pick in the 2018 draft. He's a long and athletic forward with tremendous upside, but he could struggle to find playing time this year due to the insane depth on the Boston bench.

This is common with draft picks who join ready-made contenders. The prospects might be ready to play on most teams in the league, but the Celtics have championship aspirations and cannot afford to let a young player learn on the job.

As the season progresses, Williams will have his opportunities. Injuries are a part of the game — as the Celtics know as well as anyone — and Williams must be ready to step in and provide quality minutes when called upon.

His debut was short, but he has a long career ahead of him. His friends and family should see much more of him in the coming years.
