As teams are gearing for trades before the end of the year, recent rumors might provide a glimpse of Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum's situation with the Celtics.

The Celtics are currently 9th in the Eastern Conference, with a 14-14 win-loss record. However, questions regarding Boston's capability have risen over the years, centering around Brown and Tatum's future with the team, and if they can lead the Celtics to success in the postseason.

With the lack of results in the last two seasons, Boston stood by their star duo early on—even with other teams inquiring on their availability. According to Bleacher Report, “Talking to Boston, those are the only two untouchables,” said one assistant general manager.

However, this was the scenario back then. Today, rumors suggest that the outlook on Brown is different. There is increased speculation and interest on Brown's availability in the coming years, especially if the Celtics do not succeed within the East.

“I think they’re starting to get to a place where they don’t think he and Jayson Tatum can coexist,” said another assistant general manager.

“I think there's pretty widespread belief that they don’t work together,” one general manager told B/R. “But unless ownership adds pressure on [Boston GM Brad Stevens], I don’t see them doing anything.”

While Boston always valued Marcus Smart and Robert Williams III apart from Tatum and Brown, fans shouldn't be surprised if roster moves will be made after this season— especially with Dennis Schroder in the mix. For now, just like any other rumor, nothing seems to be certain yet. All we can do is wait and see until things unfold.
