The Los Angeles Chargers are entering a new era in their franchise without Philip Rivers under center. While it's uncertain who will start next season, Anthony Lynn revealed what Tyrod Taylor brings to the offense.

It's safe to say that Rivers, during his career with the Chargers, was far from being a mobile quarterback. In the event that Rivers was throwing the ball, there was a good chance that he was doing so strictly from the pocket.

On the other hand, Taylor adds another dimension to Los Angeles' offense with his ability to create with his legs. The last time that Taylor started in more than 14 games in a season came in 2017 with the Buffalo Bills.

Besides throwing for 2,799 yards, Taylor also rushed for 427 yards back in 2017. In comparison, Rivers has combined for only 609 rushing yards in his 16-year career with the Chargers.

Of course, designed running plays aren't the only thing that Taylor can add to the offense. Additionally, even on passing plays, the Chargers can now allow Taylor to move out of the pocket and make throws down the field. As good as Rivers was, it was a rarity to see him throw outside the pocket.

What is interesting about Lynn's comments is the fact that it seems as if Taylor has already secured the starting job. Seeing that there's a shortened offseason, Los Angeles may be electing to go with Taylor over rookie Justin Herbert due to his experience. At the same time, Lynn is confident that Taylor can open things up for the offense next season.
