Prior to Sunday's game against the Tennessee Titans, the Los Angeles Chargers ruled Pro Bowl running back Melvin Gordon out for the contest due to a lingering hamstring injury.
Following the contest, head coach Anthony Lynn voiced that the team had made this decision solely to protect Gordon from having this issue persist longer than it should typically take to heal, according to Ryan Kartje of The LA Daily News.
This move has given Gordon an extended period to rest as the Chargers have a Week 8 bye that will allow for him to be ready in time for their matchup against the Seattle Seahawks on Nov. 4. It should be plenty of time for him to get right physically from the lingering ailment and see him continue to perform at an elite level this season.
Gordon had emerged as one of the premier running backs in the league over the last couple of years that he has taken to the next level in the 2018 campaign. Despite missing Sunday's game, he is still fourth in the league with 466 rushing yards along with being third with six rushing touchdowns while making 30 catches for 279 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
He has been a huge reason for the Chargers got off to a strong start to the 2018 campaign currently sitting just a game behind the Kansas City Chiefs for the top spot in the AFC West with a 5-2 record. Upon his return, Gordon should continue to remain a huge offensive factor for Los Angeles to get back to the playoffs for the first time since the 2013 season.
