Chelsea could be without first-choice goalkeeper Edouard Mendy for a crucial meeting with Man City on Saturday. The Senegalese international missed the Tottenham clash over the weekend and has already been ruled out for the Blues' mid-week Carabao Cup tie with Aston Villa.

Thomas Tuchel revealed on Tuesday that Chelsea is facing an uphill battle to have Mendy fit for Saturday after picking up a knock in the side's Champions League victory over Zenit last week. Via Goal:

“Actually, I think it is possible but it is a bit of a race against pain and time.

“I hope he will be back in team training on Thursday. If it goes well, I hope he can be ready for Saturday but I don’t know right now.”

Kepa Arrizabalaga impressed in place of Mendy on Saturday, keeping a clean sheet for Chelsea in a 3-0 routing of Spurs. He will be in between the sticks for the next two games if the Senegal keeper is unavailable.

Mendy has been absolutely brilliant during his time at Stamford Bridge and it would definitely be a blow for him to be sidelined against City. Like Tuchel said though, it's going to be a tall task to have Mendy ready for Saturday, but Chelsea and its staff will be doing everything imaginable to make it happen.
