After the release of Kareem Hunt in 2018, the Kansas City Chiefs turned to Damien Williams. Chiefs offensive coordinator, Eric Bieniemy, reiterated that Williams is the starter moving forward.

For the past week, Williams has been sidelined with a hamstring injury during training camp. People have questioned whether or not Williams has the starting job secured while he is nursing his injury.

Earlier this offseason, the Chiefs signed Carlos Hyde to join the backfield. Hyde is capable of being a featured back as he's shown previously in his career but Kansas City wants Williams to be the guy.

Last season, Williams stepped into the starting lineup for the final three games of the year. In those three games, Williams rushed for 203 yards on 34 carries and three touchdowns.

Williams was also vital to the Chiefs offense as they took down the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Divisional Round. That game, Williams mustered up 129 yards on 25 carries and a score.

Then, the Chiefs running back was stymied by the New England Patriots on the ground, rushing for just 30 yards in the AFC Championship game. Although, Williams scored three of the Chiefs' four touchdowns in their 37-31 overtime loss in Arrowhead.

This offseason, Kansas City and Bieniemy have focused on ways to get Williams more involved in the offense. Over the course of his career, Williams has never played the role of being a workhorse back but Bieniemy believes he could handle it.

With there being questions surrounding the Chiefs and their backfield, Bieniemy has set the record straight.

Damien Williams will be the starting running back and that's that.
