The NFL has been adamant about maintaining the timeline of the 2020 season amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Unfortunately, it seems the Kansas City Chiefs have already started to acknowledge the prospect of playing in front of a limited number of fans.

Although teams continue to charge season-ticket holders for the upcoming season, it remains to be seen if fans are even allowed to be in attendance.

Kansas City announced that they plan to have reduced capacity in attendance at Arrowhead Stadium, via the team's official website:

“While our goal all offseason was to have a full stadium as we begin our Super Bowl title defense, it is out of consideration of the health and safety of our fans, employees, coaches and players that we move forward with a reduced-capacity plan that adheres to local guidelines and expert recommendations. As we looked at ways to navigate this unusual season, our first priority was to offer a fair and flexible plan for our loyal and valued Season Ticket Members, and we believe we accomplished that. While it will be a different experience for everyone, we are looking forward to welcoming fans to Arrowhead this fall.”

They added that the Chiefs will take precautionary measures by selling the necessary amount of tickets as the season goes on:

When reduced capacity single-game tickets go on sale to Season Ticket Members and the public, it is likely that the club will only sell tickets for the preseason and the first few games of the regular season. As the season progresses, the club will follow the guidance of local officials and public health experts, with the goal being that local regulations will allow for an increased capacity later in the season. Any change that increases capacity throughout the season would provide more fans the ability to purchase single-game tickets in more areas.

Players have expressed concern over kickstarting the season during an ongoing pandemic and a time of social unease in the country. The recent spike in the number of positive cases has only served to amplify these concerns and they are now having a direct impairment on the outlook for fans this season.

At this point, the prospect of any fans being in attendance at the games seems rather far-fetched if the NFL hopes to avoid any further setbacks sacks. Teams like the Chiefs have already started to introduce their alternative options for season-ticket holders that will not be allowed in the stadium on game days.

Fans can opt to receive a full refund for the payments on this season or choose to use it as credit for the 2021 NFL season. Those that opt to do the latter will receive benefits such as preferred, single-game presale tickets, and even a box with exclusive gifts.
