Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Antonio Hamilton opened up about his generous donation that has helped get a first-grade student closer to a much-needed heart transplant.

According to the Daily Caller, Hamilton donated $30,000 to seven-year-old Lamere Johnson, who has been suffering from hypoplastic left heart syndrome since before he was born, in his hometown of Johnston, South Carolina.

In a post on his Twitter account, the 28-year-old said his donation wasn't done for attention, but rather to help save the life of young Lamere.

“First of all, I hate posting stuff like this, because I don't do for people to get attention or notoriety from, I don't even know how the different news stations picked this up. I have been blessed and it was on my HEART to give and with the help of all you guys were able to do so and Lamere is going to get a new heart.”

Hamilton, who was signed by the Chiefs to a one-year deal last season, also expressed his gratitude to several people who helped him with his generous donation and also singled out fans and supporters who had purchased jerseys, t-shirts, and posters, adding all the proceeds from the sale of those items went to Lamere's new heart.

Lamere's mother Contessa Culbreath said her son has undergone numerous surgeries for his condition and it was always assumed he would need to undergo a heart transplant at some point.

With the help of Antonio Hamilton and the Child's Organ Transplant Association, Culbreath said she has raised more than $69,000 so far, exceeding the goal of $65,000 initially sought by the family.
