Few players in NFL history have dazzled the football world like Michael Vick. He broke the mold of star quarterbacks during the early 2000's, changing how the position was played and was defended as much any other player in recent memory.

Another precocious signal-caller followed in his footsteps last season by expanding the scope of what seems possible, and Vick certainly wasn't surprised.

In a Thursday appearance on “PFT Live,” Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach recalled a conversation he shared with Vick back in 2017, when the recently-retired, four-time Pro Bowler was brought in to assist coaching the Chiefs' quarterbacks, a group that included rookie Patrick Mahomes.

“Mike Vick came by for a few days to do some coaching work with our young guys,” Veach said. “There were a couple throws Pat made, and I remember being in the film room with Mike and he was like, ‘Did he just do that? I've never seen that.’ We were joking, ‘This is Mike Vick!' A quarterback like Mike Vick says he’s never seen something?”

Mahomes, the 10th overall pick in the 2017 draft, sat behind veteran Alex Smith his first year in the NFL, learning the league's ropes. It wasn't until last season when the 23-year-old had the opportunity to surpass even wild expectations like Vick's, doing so with spectacular ease while leading Kansas City to the AFC Championship game and becoming the youngest MVP since Dan Marino.

As a first-year starter, Mahomes set the record books ablaze by throwing for 5,097 yards, 50 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. The scariest part? He'll only get better.
