Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs were on the wrong side of history as they became the first team in NFL history to lose despite reaching the 50-point plateau. Mahomes played his part in helping the Chiefs get to 51 points as he threw for six touchdown passes.

However, he also owned up to the fact that his costly turnovers helped the Rams get 54 points, and more importantly, the win.

“The turnovers just changed the game,” Mahomes told reporters per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. “I think I gave them 21 points, pretty much, through turnovers. It’s kind of just like at the New England game, you can’t give good teams points turning the ball over.”

Mahomes committed five turnovers in the game — three interceptions (a new career-high) and two fumbles. Rams linebacker Samson Ebukam scored two touchdowns off those turnovers, while former Chiefs corner Marcus Peters' late pick helped seal the game for LA.

Mahomes admits the loss to the Rams has left a bad taste in his mouth as the Chiefs head into their bye week. But he still realizes that the Chiefs still control their own destiny when it comes to sealing home field advantage in the AFC, and they will be gunning for that goal when they return.

There’s no doubt that Mahomes and the Chiefs’ chances of winning would’ve been much higher if he had taken care of the ball a bit better. But it speaks to his ability that despite all those miscues, he still kept the Chiefs in the game and had a chance to steal the win on the road in the final moments.

Hopefully, Mahomes can use this game as a learning experience and will take better care of the ball moving forward.
