The Los Angeles Rams and Kansas City Chiefs made history on Monday night as they became the first teams to score 50 or more points in the same game. Unfortunately, the Chiefs came up just short and have set an unwanted record of their own.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the Chiefs became the first team in NFL history to score 50 or more points and come out on the losing end.

Teams that scored 50 or more were 216-0 all-time in NFL history entering the Monday night game, which means they’re now 217-1 after the Rams got the 54-51 win.

The Chiefs’ 51-point output is now the most points ever scored by a losing team, overtaking the previous record of 49 shared by the 2015 Giants and the 1963 Oilers.

As he’s done for most of his remarkable season, Patrick Mahomes just made play after play in the game. Mahomes threw for 478 yards and threw for six touchdowns for the second time this season.

However, turnovers were Mahomes’ undoing as he threw three interceptions and also lost two fumbles, which cost the Chiefs dearly in the end.

But despite all those miscues, it speaks to Mahomes’ resilience that he still had the Chiefs in with a shot to win the game on the road against a top team like the Rams.

On the bright side for the Chiefs, they have the remarkable offensive firepower to put up another 50-point game at some point this season. And chances are, they're not going to lose if they reach that number again.
