Chiefs news: Travis Kelce guesses how much Patrick Mahomes will earn on next contract

Travis Kelce made a wild guess as to what Patrick Mahomes will earn annually on his next contract. The Chiefs QB is entering the last year of his deal.

Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes is still earning a salary on his rookie contract. The 24-year-old Super Bowl MVP and 2018 NFL MVP will likely become the highest-paid player and quarterback in the next year should he sign a contract extension or a new deal as a free agent.

His Super Bowl champion teammate and veteran tight end Travis Kelce took a swing at estimating how much Mahomes will earn on his next deal.

“I think he’s going 50 a year,” Kelce joked to host Dan Patrick Monday morning. “I think he’s going to make $50 million per year on the field — worth every penny of it.”

Kelce, 30, a five-time Pro Bowl tight end, has spent the entirety of his seven-year NFL tenure with Kansas City. The veteran is predicting north of $50 million in the tank for his offensive colleague Mahomes. That might be close in the correct ballpark considering the best QB's in the league earn nearly $40 million per season.

Whatever figure Mahomes agrees to, he will most definitely be earning one of the richest contracts in NFL history.
