In what NFL Network's Ian Rapoport called a “significant development” in the case, Chiefs receiver Tyreek Hill is expected to be at training camp after an eight-hour meeting with league officials in Kansas City on Wednesday.

Wednesday’s meeting gave Hill and his legal team an opportunity to provide further clarity in regards to the four-page rebuttal his counsel sent the NFL in May against child abuse charges.

The Johnson County district attorney had stated publicly weeks ago that the criminal case involving Hill is no longer active.

However, the NFL — which has yet to rule in the case regarding potential discipline, — has proven in past cases that a player doesn't need criminal charges brought against him to invoke discipline.

Depending on when the NFL makes its ruling, Hill could be available to suit up for training camp, which starts in late July. Rapaport said the league hopes to make a decision before the start of the regular season.

It’s unclear if the NFL will speak to Espinal. The Kansas City Star is reporting that the NFL has no more interviews relating to this investigation scheduled at this time. That includes any potential interviews or document requests from the Johnson County District Attorney’s office.

Hill is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he hauled in 87 receptions for 1,479 yards and 12 touchdowns en route to a Pro Bowl appearance and a First-Team All-Pro selection. He has made the Pro Bowl in each of his three NFL seasons and has been named First-Team All-Pro twice.
