Before the 2019 season started, the Kansas City Chiefs handed wide receiver Tyreek Hill a three-year, $54 million contract extension. However, as CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora notes, it “includes exhaustive protections for the club in the event the receiver runs afoul of the law again or is found to have not been truthful in the investigation into allegations that he broke his child's arm.”

The Chiefs suspended Hill in April for allegations of child abuse of his son, which include breaking his arm. However, despite Hill being denied custody, the NFL announced on July 16th that he would not face any discipline from the league as they felt he did not violate their personal conduct policy.

Hill previously pled guilty to hitting his girlfriend, Crystal Espinal, while she was pregnant with his son in college.

It's fair to say Hill has a checkered past; both the Chiefs and NFL are all too aware. Though the league didn't fine or suspend him, they made it clear, in a letter, that they will take action on any new material to the child abuse case. The Chiefs, on the other hand, gave him a pricey contract extension that allows them to essentially void any guarantees on a week-to-week basis if suspended or placed on the Commissioner's Exempt List, according to La Canfora.

Hill is certainly out with a shoulder injury sustained in the first half of the Chiefs season opener. In his place, Kansas City will insert Sammy Watkins as Patrick Mahomes' No. 1 receiver Week 2 against the Oakland Raiders.
