LA Clippers head coach Doc Rivers admits the dual role of coach and president of basketball operations “was too much” for him to handle.

At first, Rivers was excited about the challenge of the dual role and thought he would be able to succeed in it. The 57-year-old Chicago native was in the role for four years before he was removed from the position in 2017:

“I always wanted to do all of it,” Rivers said, via Ben Golliver of The Washington Post. “[President was] a job that I wanted to do. I thought I could do it. But for me, it was a lot. For me, it was too much.

“My life has changed for the better. The workload is better. I’m happier, absolutely. This is a better setup for me, as opposed to being the guy in those meetings at the facility all day. I’m not watching all those college games during the season. At this point of my life, I’m in a perfect place. I love coaching. I love trying to create winners. The [president] title is great, but I don’t know what that does for you.”

Lawrence Frank is the president of basketball operations now in LA.

Doc Rivers is showing this season he is still one of the best coaches in the NBA. The Clippers don't have a single All-Star on the roster, yet they are 42-30 on the season and on their way to making the playoffs.
