Doc Rivers and the Los Angeles Clippers won the offseason after signing Kawhi Leonard and acquiring Paul George from the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Rivers went on the Rich Eisen Show and detailed how the Clippers landed Leonard and George:

Most people had a feeling Kawhi Leonard was going to sign with the Clippers, but no one saw LAC trading for Paul George, who signed a four-year contract with the Thunder last summer.

Doc Rivers says the Clippers had to acquire George to get a free agent commitment from Leonard, who reportedly recruited George to request a trade from the Thunder. Both All-Stars are from California and eager to lead the Clips to their first-ever championship next season.

Rivers guided the Clippers to 48 wins in the 2018-19 campaign without having a single All-Star at his disposal. Now, the Chicago native has two of the best players in the world and a great supporting cast, headlined by Lou Williams, Patrick Beverley and Montrezl Harrell.

Last season with the Toronto Raptors, Leonard averaged 26.6 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists during the regular season. He guided the Raptors to the championship over the Golden State Warriors and won his second Finals MVP.

George, meanwhile, put up 28.0 points, 8.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists with the Thunder. The swingman underwent surgery to his right rotator cuff and left labrum after the Thunder’s season ended and could miss the entire preseason for the Clippers.
