Los Angeles Clippers rookie Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's fashion statement at the recent draft is not just a one-time act. The 20-year-old point guard out of Kentucky is looking up to Russell Westbrook in terms of fashion style and trends.

Gilgeous-Alexander recently sat down with Jovan Buha of The Athletic and talked about his rookie season expectations and, of course, his much-hyped fashion sense.

“I just wanted to put everyone on notice about my fashion sense and how much I'm into it,” Gilgeous-Alexander told The Athletic this week in an interview over chicken and carne asada tacos at SOL Cocina.

When asked about who his models and influences are, the prized rookie singled out the former Most Valuable Player playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Athletic: Are there any athletes or celebrities that you’ve been influenced by or admire style-wise?

Gilgeous-Alexander: I wouldn’t say influenced. I like [Russell] Westbrook’s style because he does his own thing and it’s original. That’s the biggest thing with fashion: Just be yourself and express yourself through your clothes. That’s exactly what he does.

The 2018 11th overall pick turned heads when he wore a classy, floral suit at the draft last June. With more and more NBA players making their own signature imprints on fashion, the 6-foot-6 point guard is indeed living up to the hype.

However, Gilgeous-Alexander will need more than fashion sense if he wants to become a household name in the league. The all-around point guard is predicted to be a potential franchise cornerstone for the Clippers. In his one season with the Kentucky Wildcats, Gilgeous-Alexander posted impressive averages of 14.4 points, 5.1 assists, 4.1 rebounds, and a respectable 40 percent from deep.
