As the offseason rolls on, the Cleveland Cavaliers haven't been any closer to trading their All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving, staying dead-locked on any potential deals with the New York Knicks. On the other hand, the Cavs may opt to survey other options, such as Irving's latest team of preference — the L.A. Clippers, according to Basketball Insiders.

With Chris Paul gone, the team formerly known as Lob City now only has remaining pieces from the trade, that while valuable, are not the young, promising assets that the 2016 NBA champions have looked to acquire.

Cleveland's front office has shifted its aim from a win-now veteran return to a young star with potential in return, a particular asset the Clippers just don't have at the time.

For there to be a trade between these two teams, there would need to be a third party involved to facilitate the acquisition of this young star, making this a more difficult trade to pull off than it already is.

As far as fit, Irving would be a shoo-in at the point guard position, easily breezing past Patrick Beverley and Milos Teodosic for the starting spot and possibly creating a one-two scoring punch with Blake Griffin.

Yet it's still a rather difficult proposition getting the stars to align for this trade to come through, making any Irving trade a long shot for the time being.
