Los Angeles Clippers guard Landry Shamet’s decision to withdraw from the USA Basketball Select Team camp stems from his desire to be 100 percent healthy entering Clippers training camp in September.

According to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, Shamet is dealing with a minor muscle contusion in his lower leg.

With superstars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George on the team, the Clippers are title contenders for the first time in franchise history. As a result, training camp and preseason play are going to be important for the team to develop chemistry, and Landry Shamet wants to make sure he's physically ready for that.

The Clippers acquired Shamet from the Philadelphia 76ers this past season in the blockbuster Tobias Harris trade. In 25 games with LAC, Shamet averaged 10.9 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists while shooting 41.4 percent from the field, 45.0 percent from beyond the arc and 79.5 percent from the free-throw line.

During the 2019 postseason, Shamet put up 7.7 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists. The Clippers lost to the Golden State Warriors in the first-round in six games.

LAC will need Shamet to stretch the floor next season and be an accurate shooter from beyond the arc. Leonard and George are going to command double-teams on a nightly basis, which is going to free up Shamet and the other shooters on the Clippers for wide-open looks.
