The Los Angeles Clippers have waived Isaiah Thomas, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

With the Washington Wizards, Thomas was hoping to show people he can still play at a high level. He hasn’t been the same superstar player since suffering that hip injury with the Boston Celtics in 2017. Thomas struggled with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers during the 2017-18 season and fell out of the Denver Nuggets’ playing rotation last season.

While Thomas showed some flashes of his old self with the Wizards, it apparently wasn’t enough to keep him on the roster. Washington traded Thomas to the Clippers.

Thomas played in 40 games for the Wizards. He averaged 12.2 points, 1.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists while shooting 40.8 percent from the field, 41.3 percent from beyond the arc and 81.6 percent from the free-throw line.

Basketball fans are hoping Thomas will be picked up by a team once he clears waivers. He’s one of the most popular NBA players.

In 525 games with the Sacramento KingsPhoenix Suns, Celtics, Cavs, Lakers, Nuggets and Wizards, Thomas has career averages of 18.1 points, 2.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists. He’s a two-time All-Star.
