No matter how good the Los Angeles Clippers are, Los Angeles will always be a Lakers town.

Clippers shooting guard Lou Williams, who has played for both franchises, is “perfectly fine” with that:

“This is a Laker town,” Williams said, via SLAM Magazaine. “There ain’t no confusion about that. That’s perfectly fine with us. We prefer it for the odds to go against us. I think that brings the best out of us. I think that’s just the difference [between] playing for the Clippers and the Lakers. So much is expected of the Lakers from the beginning and it’s, like, surprising if we do something.”

For the first time ever, both the Clippers and Lakers are title contenders at the same time. The Clippers have won both games against the Lakers this season, with Kawhi Leonard thoroughly outplaying LeBron James.

The 2014 and 2019 NBA Finals MVP is averaging 32.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists versus the Lakers while shooting 55.3 percent from the field, 50.0 percent from beyond the arc and 94.4 percent from the free-throw line.

Fans in Los Angeles are hoping the Clippers and Lakers meet in the Western Conference Finals. A series with Leonard, James, Anthony Davis and Paul George in it would be a lot of fun to watch.

Despite losing to the Boston Celtics in ugly fashion on Monday, the Lakers still have the best record in the West at 34-9. The Clippers are in fourth place with a record of 30-13.
