Activision Blizzard may be starting to loosen their stance towards alcohol and betting sponsors for the COD and Overwatch Leagues.

COD team London Royal Ravens recently announced that they have become sponsored by wagering site MIDNITE. Before, Activision Blizzard had an unofficial policy against these kinds of sponsorships, effectively placing all brands falling under these two categories under soft bans. However, since this announcement by the Ravens, The Esports Observer reports that this was no longer the case. “Sources close to the Call of Duty and Overwatch Leagues have confirmed,' writes The Esports Observer, “that both leagues will now allow team sponsors from the wagering and liquor business sectors.”

While there hasn't been an official announcement yet, the Ravens' partnership with MIDNITE may be the unofficial sign. After all, it's also not hard to imagine that Activision Blizzard will make this change. Way back in April 2019, the Overwatch League itself partnered with Bud Light, one of America's biggest names in the alcohol industry. This deal included live activations at four key events and sponsored broadcasts on ABC/ESPN2. This partnership even served as the return of Bud Light to esports, after temporarily quitting the industry in 2017 when their Bud Light All Stars program failed miserably.
