The Indianapolis Colts surprisingly reached the postseason as an AFC Wild Card team as a result of the 2018-19 campaign. While the AFC South franchise appears to be on a serious upswing, Colts head coach Frank Reich also realized that his team no longer possesses the element of surprise as the rest of the league has been forced to take notice.

“There is a little bit of an advantage in Year 1,” Reich said during last week’s NFL owners meetings in Phoenix, via The Athletic. “I always felt that. And I always felt, especially early on, even though it didn’t play out that way in wins and losses.”

However, the Colts do have at least one thing going for them as quarterback Andrew Luck, who returned to form in 2018-19, has yet another year under his belt in terms of becoming more familiar with the team's new coaching staff.

“Last year, Andrew [Luck] was just taking it all in,” Reich added, via The Athletic. “‘Hey, this is my new offense that I gotta learn,’ so he takes it [as], ‘Let me learn the offense.’ I’m sure he’s gonna be even more vocal this year, ‘Hey, can we do this? Can we do that?’ And you want that.

“I really love that as a coach.”

The Colts will surely enter the 2019-20 seasona as the favorites to win the AFC South with both the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans currently serving as legitimate threats as well. Last season, the Texans won the division with the Titans and Colts squaring off for a spot in the postseason during their Week 17 matchup.
