The Indianapolis Colts have announced that they're re-signing defensive lineman Margus Hunt to a contract extension, before he was set to be a free agent.

The Colts made the official announcement on their website, where they announced that Hunt is the third Colt to get re-signed to a contract, behind the re-signing of defensive end Anthony Winbush and defensive tackle DeShawn Williams to reserve/future contracts, as well.

Colts general manager Chris Ballard said that re-signing Hunt to a contract extension was a foregone conclusion, especially since he is such a valuable asset to the team. He said that Margus Hunt will continue to prove a good investment for the team going forward, too.

“Margus is a unique guy inside because of his length. Putting him at the three (technique) and the one (technique) it really kind of accentuated on what he is really good at. We were fortunate to have Margus. Hunt will be counted on to once again be a key piece for a Colts defensive line that will continue to be molded and shaped by Ballard and head coach Frank Reich and his staff.”

Margus Hunt was originally looked at as a bad investment by the team since fans were unfamiliar with his style. However, he quickly changed some minds when he collected career highs in tackles (30), tackles for loss (13), sacks (5.0), and he also added six quarterback hits, two passes defensed, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. So, he's more than proven himself to the Colts, at this point.
