All signs point towards Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott being back in Arlington next season either with a new contract or under the franchise tag. If, for some reason, the Cowboys decided not to offer him a contract, there is no doubt he is going to be a starting quarterback for some team next season.

Individually Prescott had a big 2019 season, but there are still some areas that he needs to focus on to improve his game. Let's breakdown two areas he needs to focus on, so the Cowboys or his next team can make the playoffs.

2. Run the ball more

Prescott is a weapon with his legs, and he needs to start using it more to his advantage. During the 2019 season, the Cowboys quarterback rushed 52 times for 277 yards and three touchdowns. Those were all career lows, and with his build, he needs to start running more. He isn't the faster quarterback in the league, but he is tough to bring down in the open field.

There were plenty of chances during the 2019 season where Prescott could have picked up first downs, or maybe even touchdowns, with his legs, but he decided to hold onto the ball instead.

In each of his first three seasons, he scored six touchdowns with his legs, and they need to start looking for him more during goal-line situations.

He needs to rewatch film from this season and look at what areas he could have ran the ball instead of throwing it away or forcing it to a receiver.

Next season, the goal should be at least 350 yards and six touchdowns.

1. Adjust to Mike McCarthy's system

Newly hired Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is going to come in and install his system, but Prescott should be trying to give as much input in the system as he can. Hopefully, McCarthy is installing a system that fits Prescott's system and won't try to force him to run something he isn't comfortable with.

Prescott has a lot of strengths that the offense should be designed around, including using his legs. Prescott needs to be vocal about what he would like to happen with the offense because that will give them the best chance to win

Prescott has grown into being a leader for this team, and this is his chance to put his stamp on it. The one thing he doesn't want to do though is burning bridges with McCarthy by taking over too much control.
