Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Allen Hurns went down with a gruesome leg injury last year during the playoffs and initially, there were some questions if it was career threatening. More questions were asked after the Cowboys signed Randall Cobb but according to Cowboys coach Jason Garrett Hurns recovering is going well and he is going to get a chance to compete for a spot with the team during training camp.

“Allen’s doing great,” Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said last week via Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk. “He is a true pro and just going about it the right way every day, and he’s made tremendous progress. He’s been working with our rehab guys, [athletic trainer] Britt Brown, and he’s just done a fantastic job. We’ll just continue to be deliberate with him coming back. Obviously, a very serious injury, but he’s made great progress and really looks good.”

Last season Hurns hauled in 20 receptions for 295 yards and two touchdowns. The stats aren't eye-opening, but he did make some key catches in key spots.

The expectation is that Hurns will return to the team sometime during training camp as long as there are no setbacks in the recovery. Allen has one year left on his contract but the team can save $5 million by cutting him before the season starts.

If Hurns is going to want to keep his job, it's going to be key that he gets back to training camp as early as possible so he can prove to the coaches he still deserves a spot on the team.
