Byron Jones is an important cog in the Dallas Cowboys secondary after finishing the 2018 season with his first Pro Bowl appearance. The fans hoped that he will be able to start the season against the New York Giants. Unfortunately for them, Jones will not be in the team sideline come kickoff.

ESPN's Adam Schefter confirmed the news that the team's top corner has not recovered on time and will be absent when they face Saquon Barkley's explosive runs.

The 2018 Pro-Bowler, who spent four successful years with the UConn Huskies, went through surgery to fix his hip in March. The injury bothered him during the tail end of the 2018 season, and the team hoped that he will make it in time for training camp and the preseason.

However, the recovery was a complicated one, keeping him out of training camp and much of the preseason. While he did participate in a full practice on September 4th, Jones was not deemed healthy enough to start.

Jones has been a consistent performer for the Cowboys ever since being picked 27th overall in the 2015 NFL Draft. He didn't miss a single game in the four years he has been in the team.

Moreover, the contract talks are also adding to the stress. After seeing Ezekiel Elliott get a huge payday, Jones will be expecting to get a slice of the pie. He is not expecting anything immediately, but he hopes that the team will reward him for his performances.

In order to get that big-money contract, he has to ball out and get another Pro-Bowl selection. And to do that, he must become fully fit again.
