Oh, the shade of it all! As Jason Witten moves from behind the booth and back onto the field, Cris Carter is prepared with snarky comments.

As we've previously reported, Witten has announced that he's coming out of retirement — and leaving Monday Night Football — to re-join the Dallas Cowboys.

We'd also previously reported that Witten was all-too-happy to become a player again, because he didn't like the TV life.

But if you hear Cris Carter tell it, Jason Witten is becoming a player again because he couldn't cut it behind the mic.

“Look, I'm a fan of Jason Witten. Jason Witten was pulled at the strings. He almost came out of retirement last season. And the reason? Not because of football, not because he's great at football, but because he got into another profession that he was not good at. It's hard to be elite at something and then go into something else and get criticism, especially when you are in a public job. When you are used to people clapping for you, and now you got people making memes about you? That's a tough transition. That's what really happened here. If we think the Cowboys got better yesterday, we are fooling ourselves.”

So, according to Cris Carter, the Cowboys made the decision because Witten's feelings were hurt. That's more than a little bit of a stretch, but we're here to let Cris Carter cook.

Witten will be back on the field in the upcoming season, and if he likes it, then we certainly love it.
