The Dallas Cowboys are getting Dak Prescott back this season. While there's zero doubt about him leading the charge as the team's franchise quarterback, the battle for who backs him up was certainly heated throughout the preseason.

With the NFL season set to be underway, looks like the Cowboys have whittled down their options behind Dak Prescott. The team is cutting both Ben DiNucci and Garrett Gilbert to trim their QB room, as reported by ESPN's Jeremy Fowler and NFL insider Ian Rapoport respectively.

With those two moves, the Cowboys have put their confidence behind QB Cooper Rush as Dak Prescott's understudy. Rush is no stranger to trying to position himself behind Prescott in the past, serving as a backup from 2017 to 2019.

Via Cowboys reporter David Helman:

“You get a great opportunity to be in a NFL camp, play preseason ball and now it's kind of a waiting game,” Rush said. “So, that's kind of how it goes in this league, everyone goes through it.”

However, the best case scenario for the Cowboys is for the decision to ultimately become inconsequential. Fans can only hope the backup QB finds himself warming the bench for most of the season with Dak Prescott managing to keep a clean bill of health.
