It was a tumultuous 2017 NFL season for the Dallas Cowboys, to say the least. However, their problems undoubtedly began with the six-game suspension of running back Ezekiel Elliott.

Needless to say, the fallout from the ruling is still being felt by team owner Jerry Jones to this day. Regardless, Elliott showed his appreciation for Jones having his back throughout the whole process with a post on Twitter:

Much love and thanks to Mr. Jones for standing behind me — as he does for all of his players. Great appreciation. Time to move on and look forward to a great season in ’18.

Jones fought tooth and nail to put off Elliott's suspension, which stemmed from accusations of domestic violence against his ex-girlfriend. Although he was never charged for the alleged crimes, the NFL had decided to punish him anyway. Elliott's court battles had been lingering all year before he decided to serve the suspension down the final stretch of the season.

Aside from his abysmal outing in Week 2 against the Denver Broncos, Elliott's performance never wavered. He still managed to finish 10th in the league in rushing yards (983) to go with seven touchdowns. He also finished first in the NFL in rushing yards per game (98.3).

That said, Elliott may just have a bit of a chip on his shoulder coming into the 2018 NFL season. Zeke is known for his boisterous personality both on and off the field. However, there are reports of a completely different mindset with this offseason's preparation, which could spell bad news for opposing defenses next season.
